Creating a Task’s start date and End date deadline (Must Start On, Must Finish On etc) limits the flexibility of schedule and Prevents MS Project from automatically managing the schedule dates for your project.
To define deadlines, project managers can define a “Deadline date” instead of creating a constraint on task to define start or end date of project task but at the same time retain the flexibility of the schedule.
Steps to define a Deadline date to a task:
- In Gantt table, double click the task name
- Go to “Advanced” tab
- Select a “Date” from “Deadline” calendar control.
Using above method, will create a “Green Colored” arrow in Gantt chart area indicating “deadline” task.
If task do not completes within specified deadline limits, MS Project automatically generates “Red Flag” for non-matching deadlines, thus providing indicator of troubled tasks.
